The Airforce pays a visit to Thursday Island
July each year the NSAA Vic Branch hold their annual toy drive. Association Members throughout the year take time to collect toys, all sorts of toys from soft an cuddly, instructional toys, games and much much more. With this year a large a collection of bikes, which are refurbished and made safe, also a wide range of scooters. To know that the toys collected will be putting a smile on a young child’s face is reward enough for our veterans.
NSAA Vic have been collecting toys for 15 years which are given to the Salvation Army for distribution to those in need right throughout Victoria and now southern New South Wales. NSAA Victoria has had a long association with the Salvation Army and support them where we can.
Toys collected are in the vicinity of 80-90 thousand over the years which is a great effort by all. Distribution is not only for major events such as Christmas, but also throughout the year for birthdays and other special occasions.
On the day of the toy drive all the toys, bikes etc; are taken to the Dandenong RSL, who kindly make a large area of their dinning room available for sorting all the different types of toys into like lots making the Salvo’s job a little easier when they arrive at the warehouse.
In the past many toys were made by members who would organize a working bee and get stuck into knocking out wooden trucks, train sets, planes and much more. Unfortunately the members are getting older so are now relying on the generosity of others.
Photographs below show just a small selection of toys collected this year.
